Merry Christmas

December 26, 2005

Mia had a pretty good Christmas yesterday. She had a whole roomful of presents to open and got through at least half of them. The bows were a big hit, and ripping off the paper was super fun. We had to take all the paper away after every rip or she'd never look up long enough to see what she got. This is why it took so long to get through hers. She's still got at least 10 still unwrapped under the tree. Hopefully she'll get to them sometime before the end of the year.

She was even well behaved for most of the 6 hour dinner. In honor of Tatie & Tonton, we did fancy french 7 course dinner. Mia wore her christmas dress and had some of her favorite garlic tofu.

She must be pretty worn out today though because she's taking the longest nap she's had in days. When she wakes up she might finally get to finish her present opening. But she's still sleeping. Let's not complain about a good thing.

Eating Tofu

My baby has garlic breath!

December 19, 2005

Mia is becoming quite the connaisseur. Sure, she'll still eat plain pureed vegetables, but add some flavor and you can't shovel it in fast enough. Her favorite dish is Garlic and Herb Tofu. A tablespoon of silken tofu, a pinch of garlic, and a dash of herb de provence. Maybe this isn't the traditional baby food, but not only is this dish tasty (I'd eat it), it's cheaper than jarred baby food and has more health benefits than I can list here. Tofu is high in protein, iron and omega-3 fatty acids, and garlic is like a little wonder drug. It's a broad spectrum antibiotic that you won't build up a resistance to, an antioxidant, lowers blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, and more! Try to get all that from Gerber smushed peas.

Childproofing with a cat

December 14, 2005

How am I supposed to childproof the house when Barclay brings her things she's not supposed to have?

I left the room for 2 minutes, and in that time Barclay had brought her a piece of string from the trash can and she had twisted herself up in it practically strangling herself.

Later that day, she crawled over to the tree and Barclay knocked down an ornament or two for her to play with.

After that, he knocked down a pencil from the breakfast bar and the next thing I know, Mia has it pointed at her eye!

He also has an affinity for small pieces of whatever that are about the perfect size for her to choke on. No matter where we leave these things he seems to find them and bring them to her.

Gah!

And she's off...

December 12, 2005

In the latest installment of the "Will Mia Crawl" series, she's after some toys that her mean mommy moved farther away. Will she go get them? Watch and see!

Going to get her toys

It's Official!

December 8, 2005

Although Mia has been scooting around the room for a few weeks now, I'm officially calling her a "crawler" now. She not only gets up on all fours, but she'll lift a limb and place it forward of where it started! And all of this without toppling over into a face plant... usually.

The jury's still out, but I think she may have also resumed her good sleeping habits. Hooray for skill mastery!

She Slept!

For the first time in months Mia had a good sleeping stretch last night. For the past few months a 2 hour block of sleep is good for her. Often she's up every 45 minutes and it takes her 30 minutes or more of walking her back to sleep. In fact, just last night she had a 2 hour block of crying her eyes out while trying to go back to sleep. What's the reason? We're currently going with teething combined with nightmares. But, last night with one interruption between 8pm and midnight, she slept from midnight to 6 am! She ate then I put her back down and she's still going strong. What a welcome change. Let's keep it up!

Going somewhere?

December 3, 2005

I've been trying to catch video of Mia semi-crawling for a while now, but she's quite uncooperative on the matter. We finally got the camera out to catch her up on all fours, but she didn't make it too far this time!

Will she crawl?

Not a fan of the applesauce?

December 2, 2005

We've been feeding Mia a few solids since Thanksgiving. Eating applesauce has been the funniest so far!
