Where's Mia's nose?
June 27, 2006
Yesterday we decided we should start teaching Mia the game of asking where her nose/ears/eyes/mouth are and get her to point at them. Like usual, she decided to completely ignore us the first day, but on the second day she acts like it is something she's been doing for ages....

Video of Mia NOT walking
June 25, 2006
So Mia has started standing by herself again for the last 2-3 days. As you know, she does this every so often, but then decides "Screw this!", and goes back to her gumby legs. Well yesterday she did 2 *new* things. One was standing up by herself in the middle of the floor. And, secondly (this one is a big step) purposely letting go of one thing to walk to something else. In the past I had to get her started and then she'd take a few steps. It was just a game. But she never decided to let go on her own to get to something else. That would make it a mode of transportation!
But of course she wouldn't do anything at all for the camera. She was standing and walking short distances all day yesterday and the second I got the camera out, which I have been carrying around in my pocket for the last 3 days, she would sit down and have a tantrum! EVERY SINGLE TIME! And given that our camera will only take 60 seconds of video at a time, we ended up with a ton that look just like this:

I stole a cookie!

We were at a pool party yesterday and found out that Mia just loves watermelon. She wouldn't eat anything else all day. She was just finishing up her second bowl of it when Daddy started eating his cookie. Mia reached for it and started "asking" for it, but mean Daddy was ignoring her. Finally she turned around, slammed down her watermelon on his chest and grabbed his cookie and stuffed as much as she could into her mouth!

Just standing around
June 23, 2006
All afternoon Mia was standing in front of her dinosaur dropping balls in. Maybe she's thinking about making her final foray into the world of walking. Or, maybe she's going to make me carry her to Kindergarten.

Mia likes Tigger now!
One of Mia's birthday presents was a tumbling Tigger. Well she was petrified of the thing when she first got it! She'd burst into tears everytime we turned the thing on. She seems to have warmed up to the thing now though.

Oops she forgot again!
We went to the baseball game last night and Mia had a great time climbing on the bleachers. She's such a monkey! She also kept grabbing her sippy cup with two hands to take a drink while standing. This is two breaking news items at once! First of all she is drinking out of her cup by herself which she usually refuses to do. It'll be sitting right in front of her and she'll whine and point to it until you hold it up to her mouth so that she can drink out of it like a little hamster. The second thing is that she was standing alone. Uh oh! If she keeps forgetting to play the poor helpless damsel, then we might just start making her do some things for herself!

Off to the Zoo
June 22, 2006
Mia hadn't been to the zoo since she was 5 months old. This time she was much more interested in looking at all of the animals. When we came upon some duck-like animals (I think they may have been some sort of stork actually) she saw them coming and started yelling something sounding like Duck, Duck, Duck and waving at them. This was quite an accomplishment for her we thought. That is until we got to the hippopotamus and she called it a duck too. Well, maybe she isn't QUITE as advanced as we had thought! However, when we were looking for the panther she spotted it first and started waving and yelling Cat. So, then again maybe she does know what she is talking about. We tried to teach her some other animal names while we were there but mostly unsuccessfully. The closest we got was otter and that came out "Ah-DUH". Well it's a start.

The Bumbo comes out of retirement
June 20, 2006
The first time Mia climbed out of her Bumbo, I put it away and bought a booster seat. This was because I had been using it mostly for meals. A friend of mine reminded me that they could just use it as a pint-sized chair on the floor. If they crawled out of it then no big deal. So, I thought I'd get it back out and give it a try.
I sat Mia down in it and she sat there for a second and smiled like, "Hey, I remember this chair!". A second later, she crawled right out of it. But a second after that she crawled right back in! Now this was the funny part. She got back in it but couldn't figure out where her legs were supposed to go so she was balled up in the seat. She must have tried for 45 minutes to figure out a more comfortable position, but never did find the leg holes. It was pretty amusing!

Big hugs
June 07, 2006
Trevor is a hugger. Everytime Mia would walk by he would want to give her a big bear hug! If I asked for a hug he'd drop what he was doing and give me one. He is just too adorable!

Happy Birthday Mia!
June 06, 2006
We were in Disney for Mia's birthday. She got to celebrate it with Trevor whose birthday is in just another week and a half. They went a little nuts on the cake!
