Questions questions questions
November 26, 2006
Where's Daddy?
Where's Dora?
Where's the puppy?
Where's backpack?
Mia is just full of questions lately! And always with squinting eyes, a furrowed brow, shrugged shoulders, and palms up. I guess its only natural that her first sentences would be questions after all of her nouns were uttered with a questioning inflection.

Kiss the boo-boo
Lately, if Mia gets hurt then she'll stick her wounded body part into my mouth for me to kiss it and make it better. However, sometimes I just don't get it quite right. Today, she hurt her toes, but I didn't kiss the right part. Nothing was making it better even though I kissed every square inch of her foot. Finally, she stopped and pointed at the very end of her big toe and said "guck here!" So I kissed the tip of her toe and all was well with the world again!

Dora's On!
Need I say more? The real excitement comes when the "We Did It" Song comes on!

Gymbo Dance
Mia has been going to Gymboree for some time now and has finally decided she should start doing the dance on her own. I was very impressed as she seemed to be doing it perfectly right up until I got the camera out! Since she's always a little performance shy, here's a slightly jumbled (but still cute!) version of the Gymbo dance! Oh, and I apologize in advance for the singing!

The time we spent in line to capture this gem of a photo. Mia was definitely thrilled to be seeing Santa!

Let the Christmas season begin
November 24, 2006

We kicked off the Christmas season by watching The Family Man while decorating the house. Mia was a really good helper today! We put up the family room tree and she helped hang a lot of ornaments after she took off the tree skirt. We bought a real tree for the living room and it is up with lights and ribbon but we're saving the ornament hanging for tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving

Mia wishes you a Happy Turkey Day! Oh, that dress looks familiar you say? You may remember it as her Christmas dress last year! To refresh your memory:

Now I know my ABCs
November 22, 2006
Mia loves pointing to one letter while shouting out the name of a different one. I'll hear "Beeee? Eeeeeh? Deeeeee? Eyeeeee?" but then come see what she's looking at and it's actually M Q Y C. Close, Mia!

Back home
November 21, 2006
We're back from our visit with Grandma and Grandpa. Mia's first order of business was to show Daddy her new Gymbo dance and how a lion goes Raar (complete with scary hand gesture!).
Some updates on her latest Mia-isms:

She loves kissing her dolls and feeding them a bottle. Then they need to get tucked into the cradle with a blanket or taken for a walk in the stroller or sling. We can't forget our diaper bag when we go for a walk!

For some crazy reason, she's started picking at her fingernails. She can see the tiniest little roughness on her nail or fingers and will pick off minute pieces of skin or nail for hours on end. She can also be seen biting her nails with a far off look in her eye...

Using utensils is a skill that Mia has been half-heartedly working on for quite some time. I always suspected that she really could get more food in her mouth if she wanted to. The theory was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt when Grandma gave her her very own bowl of ice cream. Not a drop spilled! She is also a master pie eater although the oatmeal seems to be sort of hit or miss!

There were all sorts of cats and dogs around for Mia to play with. She really warmed up to the dog Bo. Every morning she'd wake up and run to the window to look for him, calling him by name. This morning she ran to our front window looking for him. Didn't find him though. I wondered if she'd ask "Where's the puppy?" like she did last night at the airport.

One of Mia's favorite animal sounds is the horse so we were sure to take her to see a real one. Getting to sit on it was the highlight of her day!

Baking cookies was another super fun activity that Mia was quick to catch onto. She watched intently as Grandma spooned the dough onto the first cookie sheet. Then while she was off putting that sheet in the oven, Mia grabbed the spoon and started dolloping her own cookies onto the 2nd sheet! Grandpa ended up helping her out so not ALL of her cookies were oddly shaped!

Another first for Mia was seeing snow. It didn't stick, but we ran outside to touch the snow that was falling from the sky!
I hope to get the rest of her videos from the trip up soon!

The Dora obsession continues...
November 14, 2006
Mia wakes up and immediately asks for her Dora blanket. When we get it, she waves at Dora and says "Hi Dora!" for a few minutes until she's ready to race out to the living room and look for all the rest of her Doras! Every morning she is so excited to find Dora still here she runs around saying hi to every Dora she can find and doing her excited football feet every few seconds. Then at 7am and 8am we watch Dora on TV while sitting in her Dora chair and holding her Dora doll and drinking out of her Dora cup. We try to squeeze breakfast into the 7:30am slot when unfortunately, no Dora episodes seem to be on. But never fear, we have Dora videos we can watch anytime! In fact, there is a whole bag of videos-- about 20 of them-- that range from Dora to Elmo to Care Bears to My Little Pony, but Mia got into the bag and sorted through and brought me 4 Dora videos to watch.
Grandma learned her lesson earlier in the week about checking out the on screen TV Guide while Mia was watching Dora. The guide came up and although Dora was still playing in a smaller screen, Mia turned around and in her best stern voice and serious face, yelled "Do-ra!" to let Grandma know in no uncertain terms that Dora was on and should not be interrupted!

Visiting Grandma & Grandpa
November 11, 2006
Today was quite a long travelling day since Mia and I went to visit Grandma and Grandpa in Kansas. We started our day at 4am and arrived at their house at 8pm! Mia did great although we narrowly averted a meltdown 10 minutes away from our destination.
As it turns out, a little bird must have told Grandma that Mia was a big Dora fan because a lot of Dora parapharnalia just happened to be laying around when we got here! Dora dolls, blankets, chairs, cups, plates, spoons, forks, bath mats... you name it! Mia could not believe her eyes! Do-ra was EVERYWHERE!
She also found quite a lot of dolls and accessories to amuse herself. She can push them around in the stroller and feed them a bottle, or change their "bad diaper!" since she always comes prepared with her new diaper bag. We finally had to just cut her off from all of the fun because she was literally falling asleep while running around playing and almost fell over too many times to count. I'm sure she'll wake up bright eyed and ready to play some more in the morning!
We're here for 10 days, so keep checking back for more vacation pictures!

Recognition
November 09, 2006
We got the Target toy catalog in the mail yesterday and I was flipping through it with Mia when she realized that this book was full of things she knew and loved! She yelled "Do-ra" while pointing right at her. Then we flipped the page and there was "Mel-mo" staring back! When we got to the My Little Pony page she spoke to the horse in a language he might understand and we just had to bark back at the stuffed puppies. Wow, this book is FUN!

I finally caught Mia saying seriously!
Posted by Kimberly at 05:55 PM | Comments (0)
Seriously.
I have apparently been watching a little too much Grey's Anatomy, and "Seriously." has been coming out of my mouth with some frequency lately. Mia has picked up the habit and will copy me now when I say it. Four syllables is a bit much for her so it isn't quite recognizable on it's own yet, but since she also copies my inflection and mannerisms when saying it, it's pretty clear what she is repeating! Of course, as usual, when I tried to get it on video she clammed up. The good news though is that I finally got some animal sounds on video!
