I want the hummus!

December 11, 2006

Mia loves eating hummus by the spoonful. Just straight out of the bowl-- no pitas or crackers needed! This morning, apparently this is what she wanted for breakfast but didn't know what to call it. First she asked for "Bapes". This word usually gets me to go open the fridge for her after all. However, when I gave her some grapes she threw them on the ground. She asked for more bapes, but I told her no way if she was just going to throw them. A small tantrum ensued, but she quickly regrouped and set out on plan B. "Juice? Juice?" she asked while banging on the fridge. I already had her cup of juice ready so I handed it to her without opening up the fridge. Mia was undeterred. "Cheese? Cheese?" Ok fine, we'll have some cheese. She ate some of it, but still kept running back to the fridge asking for more cheese. I'm thinking, "You've got some right here! What are you talking about?" Finally, I asked her what she really wanted since it was becoming clear that she was only asking for these other things so I would open the refrigerator. As soon as I lifted her up, she grabbed the hummus and cackled with excitement. I spooned some into a bowl for her and she was happy as a clam. Maybe next time she'll remember the word so we don't have to go through this again!
