Pul-LEASE!
December 31, 2006
The word please is no longer one Mia uses to ask for something she wants. Instead, she employs it in an exasperated tone to let us know that she doesn't want you to do something.
Me: Mia, hold my hand when we cross the street.
Mia: Nooooooooo! Pul-lease?!!
Me: Mia, let me check to see if you have that new tooth yet.
Mia: Nooooooooo! Pul-lease?!!
Me: Mia, please try a bite of this food.
Mia: Nooooooooo! Pul-lease?!!
You get the picture. If we weren't sure yet that she was in the throes of the "Terrible Twos" then there's no longer any question.

I like it!
December 28, 2006

Mia had a playdate with Cynthia yesterday. They always have a great time together. Cynthia can help take care of a younger baby and Mia can have an older friend to copycat. This time we went to Cynthia's house and they played dress up and danced around the room. Mia loved dancing to Achy Breaky Heart sung by a ridiculous dancing cowboy horse. Turns out Cynthia's bed has a slide on it which was also quite entertaining. The afternoon was filled with squeals of delight as Mia tried to copy everything that Cynthia did and even made up a new sentence: "I like it!"

Greetings from Kansas
December 26, 2006

We're visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Kansas for Christmas and Mia is having a blast. She made out with all of her Dora toys including a Dora kitchen, giant Dora doll, small Dora doll, Dora sling, Dora movies, Dora ball dart board, Dora tangle puzzles, Dora aquadoodle, Dora sippy cups, Dora nightgown, Dora backpack, Dora book with sound effects, and another Dora outfit. I'm wondering if her fake fish tank might be just as good though! It is a nightlight with LCD fish that "swim" around in a circle but Mia will watch them forever and has officially put Uncle Jay on call to have it ready to go for her at a moments notice. Here are some photos from Christmas morning... starting at 5:45 am!

Present time
December 20, 2006
Mia opened her christmas present from her friend Nora today. It took a while to convince her that she was allowed to open it! She circled it from afar and checked it out from every angle before she tentatively tore into it. Once she got started though, she finished pretty quickly! It was a sushi set that she just loves. She played with it all afternoon and I had to tear it away from her and hide it at bedtime. When she wakes up in the morning I'm not sure whether to expect to hear her usual call for Dora or if it will be for sushi!

Graham Cracker
I carry Mia's snacks around in separate baggies. Lately she will ask for either "fish" for goldfish crackers, "chee-os" for cheerios, or "nack?" for a graham cracker or teddy graham snack. For a while I think she thought anything graham flavored was called snack. But today she grabbed the graham cracker baggie, opened it, took a bite, smiled and yelled "graham cracker!"

How do you work this thing?
December 18, 2006

Yesterday Mia watched as we folded up her new bed and converted into a chair. This morning she started pushing at it, pulling it around, and folding up the corners. Finally she seemed satisfied that her hard work had paid off and she had turned it into a chair all by herself. She grabbed her juice and jumped on. Vamanos!

I'm dreaming of a Dora Christmas
December 17, 2006

Mia got to open a couple early presents from Memaw and Poppop today and it seems that a little birdy also told them about Mia's obsession. She got a Dora travel bed, Dora pillow, Dora outfit... and one non-Dora dress. She was in heaven! She's sleeping in her new Dora bed right now. We're currently accepting all well wishes and good intentions that *this* is the thing that will finally get her sleeping through the night!

I want the hummus!
December 11, 2006
Mia loves eating hummus by the spoonful. Just straight out of the bowl-- no pitas or crackers needed! This morning, apparently this is what she wanted for breakfast but didn't know what to call it. First she asked for "Bapes". This word usually gets me to go open the fridge for her after all. However, when I gave her some grapes she threw them on the ground. She asked for more bapes, but I told her no way if she was just going to throw them. A small tantrum ensued, but she quickly regrouped and set out on plan B. "Juice? Juice?" she asked while banging on the fridge. I already had her cup of juice ready so I handed it to her without opening up the fridge. Mia was undeterred. "Cheese? Cheese?" Ok fine, we'll have some cheese. She ate some of it, but still kept running back to the fridge asking for more cheese. I'm thinking, "You've got some right here! What are you talking about?" Finally, I asked her what she really wanted since it was becoming clear that she was only asking for these other things so I would open the refrigerator. As soon as I lifted her up, she grabbed the hummus and cackled with excitement. I spooned some into a bowl for her and she was happy as a clam. Maybe next time she'll remember the word so we don't have to go through this again!

Daddy is taking care of me?
December 10, 2006
We had Mia's Gymboree Christmas party yesterday afternoon and afterwards I was going out to a bachelorette party. We stopped at the food court to feed Mia (and Daddy) before I left but Mia didn't seem all that interested in eating. She was barely picking at her food when I tried to explain to her that she needed to eat a good dinner because she was going out with Daddy tonight and this was her last chance. She didn't seem at all bothered by this. Then Daddy told her "Yeah Mia, Daddy might forget to feed you at all!" Mia promptly picked up the biggest handful of rice I'd ever seen her eat and shoved it all in her mouth! Her plate was clean in less than 10 seconds!

Keep your clothes on!
December 08, 2006

An instruction that Mia does not like to follow. I leave her alone for a minute and come back to see this!

Mia's Christmas party
December 07, 2006

Mia was invited to a Christmas party with her playgroup. She seemed to have a great time and even put her hat on for a few minutes. She ate all of the strawberries then went to check on the babies of the group to make sure they were ok. She decorated a couple tree ornaments and when we came home she hung them on the tree all by herself. I told her to go show Daddy what she made but she ran the opposite direction. When I went to find her I noticed that her ornament was hanging proudly on a low branch!

Socks!
December 06, 2006

Mia's new hobby is taking her socks off her feet and wearing them on her hands. Every car trip I have to move her socks from her hands to her feet. But today, she learned how to put her sock on her foot!

It's just water

We went down to Orlando to see the ICE! display. Mia seemed to like it although she got a little cold and then she had some balance issues in her gigantic coat. It is all made of ice! Take a look at Mia's pictures and more ICE! pictures.

The letter O
December 03, 2006
When Mia plays with her letters she picks up the F and says B or picks up the R and says I. It is quite cute but of course, those aren't actually the right letters she's calling out. Today she started doing O right every time. Everytime she finds her letter O (or any circle will do!), she picks it up or points to it while shouting O! So 1 down... 25 to go!

Apple Eating
Mia learned how to say "Apple" yesterday and has been asking for one all day today. Well I finally just handed one to her and let her try eating it. Who knew an apple could be hours of entertainment?

Mia's Tooth Chart
December 02, 2006

Mia got her 11th tooth this weekend. It is her last "first molar". We're still waiting for that lower left bottom incisor which she just skipped over for some crazy reason! Next up, two year molars. Can't wait!

Singing
December 01, 2006
Mia's favorite songs to sing:
Dora theme song, "Dora, Dora, Dora, Splore"
Backpack song, "Packpack, Packpack, Packpack"
We Did it song, "Did it, Did it, Did it"
These are all sung with gusto and accompanied by much dancing. Shocking that these are all songs from Dora.
