A Kiss from the Birthday Boy

Mia was invited to Elijah's birthday party this morning, and we brought a gift for him of course. I was a little worried that Mia would be jealous of all the presents, but we had a talk on the way there about how she would give him his present and that it was his birthday. She did a great job watching him get to open all of the presents... and then he got to the one wrapped in Dora paper.
"Dora! DORA! DOOOORAAAAAAAA!!!"
"Yep, that's his present wrapped in Dora paper! Let's stand back and watch him open it!"
Mia reluctantly obeyed, but kept her eye on that paper. Once he was done his mom started to crumple the paper into a little ball.... You would have thought someone was trying to kill her best friend! Her hands went to her head in desperation as she managed to squeak out a forlorn little, "Dora!"
Elijah's mom immediately realized her "mistake" and smoothed out a bit of paper for Mia. Crisis averted! You would have thought it was HER birthday!

Dressing herself
Mia is still not quite an expert at pulling a shirt over her head! I handed her some clothes this morning and told her to get dressed. A few minutes later she came to me excitedly saying "Look! Look!" and was oh so proud of her accomplishment!

Dance!

Mia gets off to a rough start when she has all those annoying tables in the way of her dancing... Then, once she drags Daddy out to the dance floor she has to teach him how to dance. The girl can't catch a break! But one thing is for sure... she wants someone to DANCE! That is an order!
Follow that up with a few new sound effects, and call it a night.

The question sked when she came into the kitchen to see Robert peering into the oven window checking on his strawberry shortcake.
Mia is quite the talker lately although there are still a lot of words we're not understanding which is generally frustrating to all parties involved. Some other conversations we've had recently:
Mia: (singing) "Do-do-do-do-do-Dora, Do-do-do-do-do-do-Dora!"
Me: "No, we're not going to watch Dora right now"
Mia: "Why not?"
Me: "It's time to go home. Say bye bye to your friends."
Mia: "Noooooooooo! Want to play!"
Heard while putting away the toys strewn about the room: "Mommy! Want my toys!"

Stop and smell the roses

Mia learned how to smell flowers a few days ago. Imagine her delight when Daddy showed up with a whole bunch of them!

Mia is starting to warm up to Elmo. She still feels the need to rescue him when he gets to laughing too hard and appears to be in distress, but she's enjoying him as well.

Swinging
Since Mia has started to enjoy swinging at the park so much we tried to get a video. Of course she had to be difficult, so she decided she wasn't in the mood... Luckily, when Daddy pushed her later that afternoon she had a blast. She can't swing that high for too long though. Right after this was taken, she started to look a little green.

Dancing Dora Doll

Who needs one when you have a Mia? Every morning when her "show" comes on, she dances like mad to the introduction. Today at her friend's house she found a Dora Sit 'n Spin that will play the song at her request with the touch of a button. I don't think I need to tell you how thrilled she was to find that. Dance away, Mia!

That's quite a sentence
Last week Mia was holding her My Little Pony and running her fingers through its hair saying "Brush, brush, brush..." so I told her to go get the brush and use that instead. She walks into the other room with her shoulders shrugged in her typical looking for something manner and said, "Hmmm... Where could the brush be?"

Lounging on the potty

I picked up a potty chair for Mia today and she loves the thing. It
took her a minute or two to figure out how to sit on it herself though. At first she climbed in feet first and squatted in the little hole... Not the most hygenic way to sit on the potty! She finally figured it out and if I ask her where she should go if she has to peepee she goes over and sits on it! So we'll see if we get anywhere with this now!
