Unbuckling herself
March 28, 2007
We're riding in the car when Mia says "Look! Look!". I glance in the rearview mirror to see her leaning really, really far forward. I wonder how in the world she can lean that far forward and think she must have wiggled her arms out of the straps. I look back over my shoulder and find that she has completely unbuckled the seatbelt! She is just sitting there unbelted in as we drive down the road now giggling to herself over what she has done. Lovely.

Candy Cane
March 13, 2007
A while back, Mia found the leftover candy canes in the pantry and just had to have one. I let her have some then but hid the rest of them. So today, she found her Dora toy that is holding a candy cane and I caught her trying to eat that one. She looked up embarrassed when she realized it wasn't real and that she had been caught! But the embarrassment didn't last long. Suddenly she remembered where the real ones were and dragged me to the pantry enthusiastically yelling, "Trick or Treat!". I opened the pantry door for her and she pointed to the exact spot that she found the candy canes last time but then stopped, surprised that they weren't there. A few seconds passed, then she turned around and told me "Trick or Treat all gone!". Ha ha! I can still fool a 1 year old... sometimes.

New phrases
March 11, 2007
Oh NNNnnnnoooo!
This is said at random intervals but with such emotion that you are sure something catastrophic has occurred.
No! Nuh-uh! No!
Usually said when asked if she wants to do something that she clearly does NOT want to do.
Wanna sit? Huh?
Sounds deceptively like a question, but in fact it means that you better do exactly what was requested (read: demanded) in short order.
One more! One more!
Mia was raiding the candy dish at a friend's house and when she brought me one I told her "One more. That's it." She happily accepted her last bite then promptly went and got another piece of candy, brought it to me, and proudly annouced "One more! One more!".

Under the weather
March 09, 2007
Mia has been sick again for the last couple of days, but I can tell she woke up feeling better this morning. I know this because now she is trying to show me what she learned about the whole throwing up experience. First, she fake coughed then asked me, "You ok? You ok?" Then she picked up the towel and put it on my mouth. Just in case I was getting a little sick myself. How thoughtful!

Sweet Tooth
March 03, 2007
Mia loves candy. The good news is that she knows it is a special treat and has to get permission first. When we were over at a friend's house, she had a candy dish down on the table within Mia's reach. Mia looked at it in amazement and then came over to get me. She showed me the candy bowl and then put my hand on it so that I would get her some.
Today, I was trying to get her to say "M&M please" before I'd hand over the goods. She didn't want to say it, but figured anything from her bag of party tricks was good enough, so she started making her horse noises and then "Moo!" "Quack!" "Ssssss!" As if to say, "Aren't any of these cute enough to give me candy???"

Appie Appie Appie!
March 02, 2007
Mia woke up this morning asking for an apple for breakfast. I went and got her one but she said NO! I told her to come sit down for breakfast because I have an apple like she wanted. She said, "But I don't want that!" Well for now kiddo, your reward for speaking in complete sentences is getting your way. Live it up while it lasts!
