Language Barrier
September 16, 2007
Take a Japanese language class.
That's been on the to-do list for quite some time now, but somehow it never quite gets done. Here's a new reason to push it up the priority list. Last night we went to dinner and it was tasty, but when the bill came it seemed a bit on the high side. We went ahead and paid it, but kept thinking about it and somehow it just didn't seem like it could have added up to that much. This morning we realized that they did give us a receipt, even if it was in Japanese and pretty much undecipherable to us. But, we did manage to figure out where the extra charge came from. They charged us an "automatic sit down at the table charge" of 315 Yen (about $3) 9 times. That adds up. Too bad we couldn't dispute it at the time. I guess we'll chalk it up to experience and call it a tax on Americans too lazy to learn the language. We gotta get on that. Oh, the food was delish though!
