What could have been...
October 04, 2007
Today started out with so much promise. Robert had the day off after being on call last night so we scheduled a "spa day" this morning. I got re-cocok-toed, and he got a massage. The beauty of living in such a kid-friendly place is that they have this whole children's area set up with toys, books, and a TV/DVD player for Mia to keep herself occupied. I was hoping that since we scheduled this for her happy morning hours that she'd be ok and she did great. As a reward for such fabulous behavior, we headed out for a pizza lunch. As we were finishing up, she stood up to go and there was something brown oozing out of her shorts and covering her entire back. That is NOT what I think it is... Oh but it was. So back to that family-friendly society statement... The one exception to this is that they never seem to have changing tables in any of the restrooms here. And this place was no exception. We headed out to the car and she was such a mess that we had no choice but to lay out an old towel we (THANKFULLY) had in the car and strip her down right there in the parking lot. The looks on the faces of the couple that walked by just in time to see a screaming toddler standing there in the middle of the parking lot, smeared in her own feces was just priceless. Not that I can blame them. The whole scene was just horrifying. We used every last wipe we had, then took the naked child home and threw her straight into the bathtub.
So now that this crisis is over we can take a minute to catch our breath. Wrong. I notice the entry is covered in ants. Why? And why are they pouring out of my bag in droves? Well I can tell you why. When we first moved here, I packed a bag of toys for Mia one day when Julie had to babysit during one of our orientation meetings. I threw some snacks in for good measure, including a box of raisins. At some point, I threw the bag in the car and left it there as her stash of car toys that would always be handy and accessible if we needed them. Forgot about the raisins. Apparently ants can smell raisins from down the street and take it upon themselves to climb into any car that happens to have a box laying around. Yesterday, said box peeked out of the bag and Mia saw them. She asked for them and thinking NOTHING OF IT, I handed her the box. She didn't say anything, but did hand the box back to me fairly quickly, "Mommy here, you hold raisins." I am still completely clueless at this point so I take them from her and throw them in my regular bag which I carry around for the rest of the day, bring home and set down on the floor in the entryway. This is where it sat until the ants got greedy and decided to leave the raisin box, my bag, and explore the brand new house they just won access to. And this is where I found them today. FAN-TASTIC.
