The case of the expensive melon

May 05, 2008

One thing we've noticed since moving here is that fresh produce is hard to come by. Especially shopping at the commissary, sometimes the item you want simply isn't there. I haven't been able to buy baby carrots for about 3 months. On Saturday I wanted to make a salad for dinner but there was no lettuce. NO LETTUCE? Frustrating. The Japanese grocery stores might have a better selection, but then sometimes price is an issue. Especially when it isn't a locally grown item. I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium for a little taste of home... but a $25 cantaloupe is where I draw the line!

I don't even like melon. I wouldn't eat it when it cost 50 cents. $25!?!? For that much, I expect it to entertain me before I eat it. And for the record, laughing at me for spending $25 on a melon does not constitute entertainment.

Just checking in to see how you all are doing- can't believe how much the girls are growing and that Mia already has an imaginary friend! I am glad you are well. I have a couple of videos of Asher on our website. We're still in Memphis. I am finishing a fellowship in Palliative Care and Hospice. We are getting ready to move to Charlottesville, VA for fellowships in Spine (john) and Geriatrics (to fill in another year while John finsihes residency). All the best to your beautiful family -Anna

Hey Rob,
You have been busy!
Anna sent me an email about your website today and I had to check it out.
Ben and I are living in DC for the next two months and then will move to St. Louis so I can do a fellowship in derm surgery.
I loved watching your videos of your children. They are really beautiful. Honestly, the most adorable children I have seen. Mia is so smart!
Best wishes. Laura
